who is the big spoon/little spoon
Carlton is usually the big spoon, and Shawn’s the little spoon. But they trade off enough for them not to see it in the pattern. Because sometimes even big, bad detectives need to be held (he never admits it, but Shawn knows).
what is their favorite non-sexual activity
Other than snarking at each other? They love watching crime shows together. They talk over them almost the entire time – guessing who the bad guy is, critiquing the frankly awful police work, and don’t get Carlton started on the way some of the actors are treating and holding their firearms. Plus, bonus couch snuggle times.
who uses all the hot water in the morning
Carlton. He always has to get up and go to work usually before Shawn’s awake, and he likes really hot showers. Shawn usually has about 15-20 minutes in the shower before the hot water runs out.
what they order from take out
Shawn’s stomach is a black hole that will consume damn near anything, but the more unhealthy it sounds, the more likely he is to get it. Carlton stubbornly picks about three things he’ll eat from any given restaurant and he will never willingly vary. Shawn does bug him until he tries new things (and he often ends up liking it and stealing more bites of Shawn’s), but he’ll never order those things for himself.
what is the most trivial thing they fight over
Who gets to drive the remote even though they usually agree on what they’re going to watch most of the time (or most of the time Carlton doesn’t care). What started as an innocent game of keep-away has escalated into an all-out war of rising ridiculousness in places to hide the remote inside the house where the other party can’t get to it. They bicker about it constantly and have a really bad case of backseat driving when the other one is using it. Every now and then, it turns into a real argument – something about control freaks and lackadaisical freeloaders. They usually take an hour or two to lick their wounds and lower their egos enough to apologize and cuddle up on the couch to watch whatever it was they were planning on watching anyway.
who does most of the cleaning
They share cleaning duties. Carlton has a system they stick to: Carlton because he likes order and Shawn because Carlton’s threatened to delete things from the TiVo or forget to pick up something Shawn’s craving from the store or even withhold sex if Shawn doesn’t do his fair share. Shawn makes a game out of it, usually racing Carlton to get his chores done the best and the fastest. They’ve come up with a scoring system. Carlton usually wins.
who leaves their stuff around
Shawn. Carlton is a firm believer that everything has its place, and Shawn insists that place is wherever he happens to sit something down. Yes, even if that’s at the station or the Psych office or Gus’s house or the restaurant down on the corner. It’ll find it’s way back eventually, and, if it doesn’t, it wasn’t supposed to be theirs in the first place.
who remembers to buy the milk
Shawn. Shawn’s in and out of the fridge at least 8 times a day scavenging for food or snacks, and he keeps a careful eye on the milk levels. He’ll usually text a small grocery list to Carlton towards the end of his shift if he hasn’t heard of him working on something major. If he doesn’t get some sort of response by the end of Carlton’s shift, he’ll scurry off to a small neighborhood grocery store to grab the essentials, and he’ll tell Carlton not to worry about it.
who remembers anniversaries
Both of them. Shawn remembers every tiny event (“It’s been a year since we shared our first pineapple!” “Four years since you interrogated me and said I was your prime suspect!” “Eight months since you drank so much tequila you don’t even remember the sexy strip tease you gave me before passing out!”) and makes a big deal out of certain ones seemingly at random. He leaves the big ones to Carlton who likes to arrange sweet, romantic dates that are just right for them without being too over the top.
